Premium smartphones can invoke anxiety, their materials and form generally slippery and fragile. Put into protective cases, their design and details are hidden away. Our works in this sector over the years have always sought to address this, building protection and piece of mind into the design via engaging characteristic features.
The Castanet concept is from a broader research project for LG Electronics. One of the more conservative concepts, a folding phone featuring a simple finger loop adding just the right level of flexible tether to the phone. Nothing like this existed on the market. The closed form has a strategic taper, which, when unfolded, creates a waisted shape, feeling incredibly secure in hand when compared to a traditional straight-sided block. In addition, the ends are surfaced in such a way to facilitate easy one-handed opening.
